CHAPTER ONE 1.0 STORES LAYOUT AND ITS EFFECT TO WAREHOUSING EFFICIENCY 1.1 INTRODUCTION Stores layout refers to the outwork or arrangement of a storehouse,. It covers how items and materials handling equipments like shelves and wardrobes are arranged in a store to ensure that a store is clean and arranged to the required standards to make sure that there is effective warehousing activities. Stores layout plays a very important role in ensuring safety of storekeepers and staff members who come for materials from the warehouse. In situations where there is poor arrangement of materials there are chances of materials getting obsolete due to poor arrangement of the materials, like the use random stocking. A good store layout requires that the floor plan is of a straight line, which allows for free movement of the stock handlers and allows for an emergency exit which can be used incases of emergencies. Warehousing efficiency refers to the act of making sure that the stores operations go the right way or the way they were arranged. Warehousing efficiency can also be viewed as the act of an organization achieving its objectives in the right way, within the stipulated time, and within ...... stores layout which will allow easy handling and retrieval of materials.
