BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Nutrition is fundamental for the development and growth of the human body from conception to adulthood. It is essential to health and to the quality of life at every age. A normal healthy child grows at genetically predetermined rate that can be compared or accelerated by over nutrition (pipes 1989). According to Cameron and Hof vander (1983) nutritional diseases usually have multiple causes which include poverty, food habits, infection and lack of knowledge. Learning of pre-school children is affected and influenced by the way these children are fed. The effects are both negative and positive. These effects are brought about by the way the children are malnourished or being well nourished. In both cases children are affected in their cognitive, social, emotional and physical development which directly affects the learning of pre-school children (Cameron and Ho Vander 1983).
