Corporate downsizing and its affects on a firm's reputation. Firms engaged in downsizing might be sacrificing the long-term health of the corporation for short-term gains in shareholder perceptions. Downsizing that is partly driven by social forces and not motivated entirely by predictable financial benefits can be dangerous and unethical. The reason behind management’s downsizing decision and the execution directly affects a firm’s reputation with its stakeholders and can have long-term effects on the company’s performance.
