The environment of an organization means the surroundings, external objects, inferences or circumstances under which it exists. The environment of any insurance company is the aggregate of all conditions and inferences that surround and affect it. It is made up of a number of characteristics including complexity. The environment consists of a number of factors, conditions and inferences arising from different sources. All these do not exist in isolation but interact with each other to create entirely a new set of inferences. It is difficult to comprehend at once what factors constitute a given environment. The environment is therefore a complex phenomenon relatively easier to understand in parts but difficult to grasp in its totality (Lumpkin, 1984).Dynamism is considered a vital feature of the environment. The environment is constantly changing in nature due to the various inferences operating hence it causes it to change its shape and character continuously. Furthermore, the environment is multifaceted, that is, whatever shape and character an environment will assume depends on the perception of the researcher. A particular change ...
... by the researcher in carrying out the study was in the collection of primary data. It was very difficult to convince respondents to fill the questionnaires that were to be used in the analysis. Many of the respondents being top managers it was very challenging to access them as most of the time they were unavailable
Another limitation faced by he researcher was the lack of statistical data thus the researcher could not analyse the results of he study in a quantitative manner.
5.5 Areas for Further Study
As a result of lack of statistical evidence or data on the effects of environmental factors on the profitability margin of insurance firms which led to difficulty in the analysis of the results .The researcher suggest that an in depth study that looks at the quantitative effects of environmental factors on the profitability margin of insurance firms should be done in order to clearly show the effects.
