ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF ZIMBABWE 1.0 INTRODUCTION Zimbabwe is a landlocked nation in the southern, sub-Saharan area of Africa bordered by South Africa to the south, Zambia to the North, Botswana to the West and Mozambique to the East. The total area of Zimbabwe is approximately 391,080 square kilometers. The capital city of Zimbabwe is called Harare and this city has a population of about one million. The country contains a variety of useful mineral resources and has good climatic conditions suitable for agricultural activities. Citizens of Zimbabwe consist of two major ethnic groups, and these are, the Shona, the Ndebele and the Asians. The shona takes a greater percentage of the total population encompassing 75% while the Ndebele population is 20% of the population and that of Asians is only 4%.
