Anteprima della tesi: Analysis of Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening
The poem Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening was written by the American poet Robert Frost. I shall present an exhaustive discussion of this poem by analyzing some of its dominant poetic elements such as structure, tone, mood, symbols, imagery and theme. Inasmuch as I believe to the truthful premise of the modern school of literary analysis that one cannot entirely divorce the poet from its work, I presented a brief background about the poet and the poem before the actual analysis. The Poet Among America’s poets, Robert Frost, who died in 1963, was undoubtedly one of the best known and most beloved. He is recognized as of the great pastoral poets of all time. In 1855, when Frost was 11, his father died of tuberculosis. After graduating from high school, he entered Dartmouth College in Hew Hampshire, but remained only for a few months. He and his family moved at Cambridge in 1897 and resumed his college education at Harvard. He left Harvard after two years and became ...
... when he decides to leave the woods. c. Death Was death alluded in the poem? There is a grain of truth in the interpretations of other critics that while the woods are a beautiful apparition in nature; it is the same apparition that invites one to his final resting place. While described by the poet as lovely, two other adjectives were used by the poet to describe the woods: dark and deep. The words dark and deep could remind the readers of the idea of endless nothingness, a Hades. The images produced by these words evoke in the mind a mysterious location somewhere in the woods which make it a silent resting place for travelers. The extreme coldness of winter and the easy wind breathes but one message---death.
