To answer whether it is agriculture that is the main constraint to development, I will start by explaining what is meant by economic development and will then proceed to consider the importance of agriculture and industry in attaining economic development in the models of balanced and unbalanced growth. Evidence will then be provided from countries that have experienced development, which will include analysis of the roles of agriculture and industry in these countries.
