KEMRI System

KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme is a well-known internationally for its work tackling malaria and other infectious diseases, particularly bacterial and viral childhood infections. The Programme was formally established in 1989 as a partnership between KEMRI, Oxford University and the Wellcome Trust. It conducts basic, epidemiological and clinical research in parallel, with results feeding directly into local and international health policy, and aims to expand the country's capacity to conduct multidisciplinary research that is strong, sustainable and internationally competitive. Strong community links are at the heart of the Programme, with an emphasis on capacity building and training to build scientific leadership. KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme is unable to monitor all its vehicles efficiently and effectively. It finds it a challenge to keep records of its vehicle maintenance, garage repair costs, fuel consumption and notifications of due dates. A lot of paper documentation brings errors especially when generating dash reports and monthly invoices, a process which is cumbersome and tedious. Misuse of organization vehicles outside of work hours or outside of designated areas can result in additional cost to the organization as well as potential litigation risks. Therefore, regular, methodical inspections of its vehicles can help avoid costly measures in the future, and make it less likely that they will encounter any unexpected surprises. As such, the vehicles need to receive the right kind of service at the right time. In addition, KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme needs to also keep track of unexpected repairs and problems so that it can accurately determine the cost effectiveness of its vehicles.

PROJECT REPORT IN PARTIAL FULFILMENT FOR THE AWARD OF A BACHELORS DEGREE OF SCIENCE IN SOFTWARE ENGINEERING ABSTARCT Final year Project fulfills part of the requirement in pursuing a degree of Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering at Kenyatta University. This project paper therefore serves to outline the purpose of Safari Fleet Maintenance System for KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme as well as how it will be used by its various users. It describes the framework under which the proposed system will be developed. It incorporates the techniques that would be used to collect information, the development tools as well as the time schedule for various deliverables. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT I would like to give gratitude and appreciation to all the people who in one way or the other have assisted me to come up with this project report. Without their various inputs, it would have been impossible ...

... temporarily hold deleted files from the system. In Safari Fleet Maintenance System, whenever a user mistakenly confirms deletion of a file, it is completely removed and cannot be recovered. A redesign would introduce more features on the database that would ensure recovery from such disasters can be handled.

 Integrate Safari Fleet Maintenance System with an existing fleet management system will greatly increase the performance of the organization. The new integrated system will monitor the vehicle mileage against fuel consumption and distances covered and give suitable recommendations to the management hence acting as a decision support system.
