MYSTICISM
In the ancient times, spiritual practices were known as prayer. Ancient mystic figures like St John of the cross and St Theresa of Avila described prayer as a form of contemplation and spiritual practice. Most modern minds are unfamiliar with the mystic path. The term Jesus prayer is referenced to as a verbal prayer with the mystic meaning being overlooked. Like wise, the injunction to pray ceaselessly as found in early Christian literature, especially the letters of St Paul, refers to constant inward watchfulness and attention towards God. Though this may include the mental repetition of some words, it does not refer to the continuous mumbling or verbal repetition of some prayers or provocations . The doctrine of Jesus prayer undoubtedly fulfils St Paul injunction to pray ceaselessly
