Wuthering Heights

Since its inception in 1847, Emily Bronte’s literary classic that is Wuthering Heights has been regarded as a chaotic and tumultuous love story. In more recent times, innovative approaches have depicted this novel from different angles, most notably social and psychological; which are the two main aspects I’m going to discuss in my essay. I am going to argue that Heathcliff’s marginalization from a societal standpoint will ultimately develop in him a need for self-fulfillment, which will lead him to impersonate the commodity culture of a productive society.

... self-fulfillment, and ultimately revealed the capitalistic nature that lied within him. David Sonstroem resumes Heathcliff’s condition by declaring, “His greatest confusions are revealed in his attempts to deal with painful events by repeating or reliving them on more acceptable terms”; except for Heathcliff, nothing is acceptable other than reuniting with Catherine, which makes his entire existence intolerable.
