Anteprima della tesi: Pathophysiology of Ascorbic Acid

Abstract My literature Review outlines Ascorbic acids source as well as its numerous functions including the formation of collagen as an enzyme co factor and its action as an antioxidant. Ascorbic acid is a powerful reducing agent and one of the most powerful antioxidants hence is capable of protecting cells from oxidative stress. There are likely to be effects of ascorbic acid on blood coagulation hence studies to see this shall be carried ...

The results obtained by Parkinen (1996) futher highlights ascorbic acids antioxidant properties in this case against photooxidation in plasma, and showed its effectiveness in preventing oxidative damage to coagulation factors.

Based on the research taken place and after a better understanding of the properties of ascorbic acid I am confident in saying that ascorbic acid offers protection from oxidative stress and in turn prevents blood coagulation from occurring when caused by stress.
