Anteprima della tesi: Gastrulation among different vertebrate models

Gastulation serves to position the three embryonic germ layers and these are the mesoderm, endoderm and ectoderm. Later on the layers develop into certain body systems. The endoderm builds up the inner linings of the digestive tract and also the linings of the respiratory passages. The ectoderm forms the epithelium of the nose, the anal canal, nails, mouth, skin, the nervous system, the lens of the eyes ...

... hypoblast and the epiblast combine to form the embryonic shield.
The gastulation in fish can be compared to the one in amphibians because the fate map derived at 50% epiboly can be closely linked to the one in Xenopus. Another kind of similarity is in terms of the embryonic shied. The embryonic shield that is formed in fish is similar in terms of function to the dorsal blastopore lip. This is because it has the ability to organize a secondary embryonic alignment when it is combined with the host embryo (Keller & Griffin, 2009).
