Nursing practice encompasses both the sick and well people. The general goals of action are to restore, maintain or attain the client’s behavioural System, balance and stability and to help the client/patient achieve an optimum level of balance and functioning when this is possible and desired. The nurse determines what nursing activities can accomplish the desired goals/out comes The first nurses were trained on the job but due to changing demands of the Public and medical care, nursing curriculum was developed and has been reviewed over the years to ensure that nurses measure to international standards. The first nursing school in Kenya was put up by the Colonial government in the present Kenya Medical Training Centre Nairobi, since then there very many schools Government, mission and privately owned while the Nursing Council of Kenya regulates their Training, practice and licensing to ensure best standards. All over the world nurses are expected to acquire post basic experience and updates by keeping abreast of new and current practices for example through Seminars, workshops and conferences. Medicine being dynamic and with the emerging and re- emerging diseases there is need to continuously update, and whether this translates to improved quality of care or not ...





... statistical package such as scientific package for social statistics (SPSS) will be used to analyze the data. Interpretation of the data will be done by the researcher based on her understanding of the issues under the study.

3.11 Ethical Consideration
• Informed consent will be obtained from the individual subject.
• Informed consent will be appropriately documented.
• Adequate privacy of the subjects and confidentiality of data will be maintained.
• Consent from the respondents will be sought to avoid any feeling of coercion. The subjects will be free to participate or refuse and nobody will be denied any service as a result of their decisions.

3.12. Limitations
NCK has about 25000 Nurses all over the country. It is not clear how many of them are in active practice until a system is put in place that can capture all the details and tract every Nurse on completion of training. It is difficult to tell who has met the NCK criteria as most of the data is manually collated.
