The USS Maine was the first ship ever in the history of the United States to be named for the state of Maine. This ship displaced 6,682-tons and was unique because it was the first ship designed and built by Americans. The ships called Texas and Maine were not the same as the others because their guard was mounted en echelon and was projected to both the sides. Due to this, they were unable to fire on a barrage. Between the two ships, Maine was the strongest but not as superior as compared to the other ships ...

It was only cold steel separating the magazines form the coal bunker right beside it. What if the cold steel was absorbing the heat from the small ember of buried coal and the steel partition acted like a conduit absorbing all the heat until it set off the explosives in the next room. That could explain the temperature in the coal bunker not getting noticeably hot.
