The USS Maine was the first ship ever in the history of the United States to be named for the state of Maine. This ship displaced 6,682-tons and was unique because it was the first ship designed and built by Americans. The ships called Texas and Maine were not the same as the others because their guard was mounted en echelon and was projected to both the sides. Due to this, they were unable to fire on a barrage.
