Current status and future perspectives of wind energy in Scandinavia: A comparative case study of the success factors and the barriers in Denmark, Norway and Sweden

This study will explore on how Denmark achieve to become a world leader in Wind energy and investigate why Wind energy should be pursued as a major alternative renewable energy source by Norway and Sweden. The study will also examine the challenges and barriers posed by Wind energy in Denmark, Norway and Sweden and will look into the solutions applied by the former country to surmount these and become a success in harnessing wind energy. It will also look into the viability of these solutions taken by Denmark to be practicably applied in Norway and Sweden.

Anteprima della tesi: Current status and future perspectives of wind energy in Scandinavia: A comparative case study of the success factors and the barriers in Denmark, Norway and Sweden

Sailing of ships in the Nile some 5000 years ago was the first use of wind power. Many civilizations used wind power as means of transportation and other purposes: the Europeans used for grinding grains and pumping water in the early 1700s and 1800s. Today, even larger wind turbines are installed regularly, commercially competing with electric utilities in providing economical, clean power in many parts of the world. The average turbine size of wind mechanism was 300 kW until the early 1990s. New machines that are installed are in the 1- to 3-MW capacity range. Wind turbines of 5-MW capacity have been fully developed and are under test operation in numerous countries.
This project therefore is aimed at exploring on the Current status and future perspectives of wind energy in Scandinavia. It will explore how Denmark achieved to become a world leader in wind energy production. The project is also going to investigate the reasons as to why wind energy should be pursued as a major alternative renewable energy source ...

... energy generation is also a key factor in combating the dangers conventional energy sources like fossil fuels pose on climate change. The Danish government, responsible for the welfare of the society, established the right conditions in.
From the statistics provided earlier, this research also is of the opinion that proper usage of renewable sources of energy is a key to realizing full industrial and economic growth in long term. The proper adoption and use of green energy is the reason behind the rising GDP and high increase in employment levels in Denmark and Norway which have become fully reliant in supply of industrial power . The Danish industry has for example has realized an increased penetration into the international electricity market by up to up to 19% in 2007. In conclusion, wind energy is an emerging economic tool that needs to be fully adopted by the developing countries that need stronger energy policies to realize full economic growth. The international environmental agencies and local governments should implement tougher environmental policies to curb GHG emissions as a way of encouraging the exploitation of the wind power potential. In addition the developed world should avail financial aid, technological support and equipment to developing world to encourage use of green energy as a global campaign to curb climate change and global warming. Finally the remaining Scandinavian states Sweden and Norway need to offer more incentives as a way of increasing wind power generation and consumption.
