They will therefore remain to be instrumental in the face of rising globalization. In nutshell, it’s not true that states will be meaningless in this dispensation of globalization.

The rise of globalization has led into a new thinking on the sovereignty of the state in a virtually borderless world. The neo-liberalists argue that the extent of globalization has made the governments defunct and empowered a new breed of economic and political giants. To them, governments have ceased to be instrumental in exerting influence on the patterns of international issues especially capital which has become placeless. This paper looks at the argument that the rising globalization is rendering the states meaningless. Comparison and contrast of the views from the neo-liberal school of thought and that from the neo-realism school are analyzed. An in-depth analysis of the literature from various backgrounds helps to arrive at the conclusion on the position of the state in the face of globalization.
