A stock control system will greatly enhance the control and management of stock in the supermarkets especially if all the branches of a particular supermarket share a central data source. Background
World Vision requires that every organization will have an Information system plan which will provide a guideline for implementing information system projects. Supermarkets have not been left behind. Many supermarkets in Kenya have many branches country wide. Some of the well known supermarkets include NaKumatt with Several branches in Nairobi, Uchumi with several branches in Nairobi and other towns, Tuskeys with several branches in Nairobi and Kassmatt with two branches in kasarani and Thika. All the branches for these supermarkets must share data and information for effective control and performance monitoring.
A stock control system will greatly enhance the control and management of stock in these supermarkets especially if all the branches of a particular supermarket share a central data source. Kassmatt supermarkets intend to implement such a distributed stock control system in its quest to gain competitive advantage and greatly enhance stock control.

Kassmatt Supermarkets consists of two supermarkets. These are located in, Kasarani and Thika. They deal in household products, stationeries, electronics, clothing, kitchen wares and other home accessories.

Kassmatt Supermarket – Distributed Stock Control System manages inventory levels and prices. However, the location of these items is not specified making it difficult to determine whether and item is on the shelf on in the warehouse. All one can tell is that it is in a particular branch. It is then recommended that a warehouse management module be incorporated into the system to keep track of the location of items on the shelves and in the warehouse. It can then be decided how many units of a particular item should be maintained on the supermarket shelves and how much is in the warehouse.
