Preview of the essay: TRIBALISM

AN ESSAY ON TRIBALISM. INTRODUCTION African Politico -Theology of Tribal integration, in simple terms means, a theology that seeks to bring together, to unite or to integrate the people of all the different tribes, races and nationalities in Africa, so that they may truly live in peace as children of the same Father in heaven, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In medical terms was could call it an “Anti-tribalism” Vaccine. It is a term I have coined to mean an intellectual tool based on my personal experience of ethnic violence and atrocities in Kenya after the general election of 2007 and the brutal rule of Field marshal Idi Amin Dada in Uganda. In character, African politico-theology of tribal integration is both political and theological. It is meant to help the Catholic church in Africa fight effectively the deadly evil of tribalism and its other socio- political evils like: racism, nepotism, witchcraft and nationalism/xenophobia which are eating up the church itself and destroying the African State and the continent as such. And so ultimately bring about the much desired tribal integration and peaceful co-existence of all the people in any of the African ...

... in Africa, politics and tribalism have strong links, for most of the political parties run and operate along tribal lines and since we have strong inclinations towards our tribesmen, fighting tribalism using political tools is almost an impossible task! So as Catholics, if we really want to win the battle against this evil, whenever our culture or political values get in conflict wit gospel values, we should choose Gospel values as our priority.

If all Catholics in Uganda we are united regardless of tribe or race and are guided by Gospel values, then we are already a political force to reckon. And we can change the political course of our country without a single drop of blood shed.

If all Catholics including those in the armed forces say NO to tribalism and corruption, the country has to change its political direction. So, Catholics all over the country, let us get united in sincere love and be guided by the Holy Spirit in our lives. That is our strong political weapon.

Finally it will be my greatest joy to see theologians in Africa pick up from where I have left, and develop this noble discipline of African Politico-Theology of Tribal Integration; whose bottom line is the faith and belief that the power from our heavenly Father, the power of love, forgiveness, mercy and tolerance is invincible. And it will eventually subdue all the forces of evil and darkness in this world.
