It took a while for European transport policy to emerge and its evolution has been slow. During the 80’s the common markets started to play a role in transport thus liberalization became the main idea of transport policy. So the question whether there was a European transport policy in the 90’s wasn’t so clear as transport mostly concerned infrastructure and to relate it with policy was something unheard of. Also transport was primarily a national agenda item(The Gale Group,2008). Nowadays things have changed as we have entered in a new era and transport policy is directly linked with intermodality and strategic planning. Now great attention is paid on the coordination of modes and the appropriate use of policy instruments apart from ...





... difficulty could be the congestion on the main road and rail routes, in cities and at certain airports or the harmful effects (or external costs) on the environment and public health and poor road safety(European Union, 1995-2010). Economic development and instability combined with enlargement of the European Union could prove to be a major obstacle. Still, even thought there may be a lot of obstacles, the growth related to transport is inevitable(European Union, 1995-2010).
