ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACT OF STONE QUARRYING ON THE ENVIRONMENT 1.0 ABSTRACT Quarrying has been defined as an activity where stones are dug for the purpose of being employed in building, making roads and the like through cutting, digging or blasting. Quarrying is a huge supporter of local economic development as using the extracted material, this enhancing trade, creating jobs for people annual, creating new habitats sometimes new roads are built, first to transport the machines and then extracted material which are then left to be used by residents. Most people in quarrying regions wholly depend on these quarrying for their livelihoods aside from other economic activities. However quarrying a short-term activity with long term effects it comes along with the promises of wealth and jobs but its brings high environmental cost too. This study aims to unearth impacts that stone quarrying has on social, economic, physical & political spheres of environment. The study will focus on quantities on how the general environment has been impacted by the ongoing quarrying activities. This is because the study needs compassion and ability of the informants to have observed changes overtime as a result of quarrying activities; this therefore eliminates children under the age of 13, because the study assumes that they will not be of much benefit in the study.
