IMPORTANCE OF QUALITATIVE RESEARCH

Quantitative and qualitative research is not the only division in research, although this is the usual classification presented. Research can be divided according to the factors that drive the study. These can be determined by whether it is aimed at general laws or specific situations, whether it aims to predict a pattern or idea or understand and explain it, and so on. Each approach has its limitations and challenges and so does the qualitative research methods. The biggest of these challenges is the ethical dilemma associated with the subjectivity of qualitative research methods, which cause confidentiality issues. Additionally, qualitative analysis covers a comparatively diverse population, even within organizations because of their current multicultural settings. This raises issues of ways in which questions are interpreted by various people. However, this, when seen from a different perspective, might be the reason why this strategy allows in-depth understanding of human diversity. Questions regarding the validity and reliability of data are equally applicable to other methods of research. These limitations, however, cannot be allowed to supersede the potential contributions that qualitative analysis can make to organizations.

The environment or milieu in which people exist, ideas develop and materialize, and events occur can therefore not be detached nor considered static if these are to be comprehensively understood and benefited from. Qualitative research methods appreciate this need to understand the dynamics of the researched subject. This approach has been extensively used in the ...
