DISCUSS THE IMPORTANCE OF DATING AND THE VARIOUS DATING METHODS COMMONLY USED. 1.0 INTRODUCTION Dating is one of the key essentials in putting site and. fossils into a chorological framework. Archaelogist, geologist and other scientist date their evidence using Relative dating, Chronometric dating or absolute dating. In trying to trace the strong about what happened in the long history the world past, one of the difficulties is to say when different events ...

... minerals will assume the direction and a proportional intercity of the magnetic field, which surrounds them.
They will retain this direction intercity after they are cooled. By measuring there quantities, the age of the sample can be determined if the changes in the earths magnetic field at that location is known.

A chronometric data can only be obtained for a sample if the secular variation cuve has been established for the region in question. The principle field determining magnetization is the earth. This field has several components, each of which varies more or less irregularly.
This method is used mostly to confirm dates from other methods and make it a weaker method of dating.
