Preview of the essay: An Approach to Learning in Context

An Approach to Learning in Context Overview The scene is a hospital staff meeting. It is fifteen minutes after the starting time, and still the members have not turned their attention to the work at hand. The hospital administrator looks to the chief medical resident to get things started, but she is busy in conversation with one of the staff nurses about a patient treatment. Since interventions are always based on analysis, a more complete analytic process, one the leads on examining all the data, one that takes advantage of all four learning contexts, increases the probability that he can lead the group more effectively. “Effective” managerial behaviour then emerges not from simply following a generic management “cookbook” but from engaging a complex and demanding learning process to understand the dynamics of a specific group in a particular context.
