ANALYSIS OF SELECTED SHORT STORIES OF LEO TOLSTOY Background of the Study The modern short story is the latest of the literary perhaps the oldest ancestor of short stories such as the myths, fables, parables, and anecdotes, are all illustrations of storytelling. In the 18th century, Leo Tolstoy bloomed. He acted as a social reformer, novelist, essayist and moralist. He used his heart rather than his mind in writing. Many people are engaging in reading short stories. Stories give pleasure and enjoyment it also enlighten their intellect and improve reading capacity of the readers. It molds reader’s ideas, shapes their thoughts and attitudes, inspires them towards goodness and perfection, moves them to act courageously and achieve remarkably. Intrinsic and extrinsic approaches are to be used so that the reader will understand the short stories and to get accurate lessons with it. In this study, students will be more knowledgeable about things. This will help them grow into awareness and understanding the power of short stories. Their pleasure in reading short stories will make them improve in some they can appreciate it more. Statement of the Problem ...
