Preview of the essay: ENVIRONMENTAL MODIFICATION TOWARDS INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

ENVIRONMENTAL MODIFICATION TOWARDS INCLUSIVE EDUCATION ABSTRACT Modification of the environment has remained a challenge to schools and to many Local Governments as well, despite strong advocacy in sensitization meetings, regional workshops, professionals training for educational managers for all institutions. Little has been achieved as far as inclusion policy of children with disabilities in regular school system is concerned. Most schools with children with Special Needs have little contact with their teachers and other pupils. These children with special needs do not participate fully in extra-curricular activities and other non-academic activities. These children are socially isolated since they are included in classroom and never participate in any activity outside the classroom. They have no support personnel such as audiologists, psychologists, speech and language pathologists, and communication support workers such as interpreters. Vocational counselors, evaluators, and work placement specialist are lacking in most regular schools serving children with disabilities. The purpose of the study is to examine the environmental barriers in the implementation of inclusive education in Moroto district in Uganda. The researcher will visit the selected schools earlier before the sample respondents are identified. He will also be in touch with the district authorities for guidance on which schools are easily accessible. This will lead to acquisition of consent from the selected participants to the study. The researcher will assure the respondents that the data collected will only be used for research purposes and not for any other purpose. And it will be kept secret.
