An electric motor will convert electrical energy to mechanical energy. Its operation is based on the principle that when a current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field it experiences mechanical force whose direction is given by Fleming’s left hand rule. Motors are widely used in industries to drive loads. A particular motor may be used to drive a certain load, also variable speeds may be required for various applications, thus the need to vary the speed of a motor. This will make the motor to be used for various applications. In this project a d.c. series motor is used. some of the application of this motor is in tracton work that is in electric locomotives, rapid transit systems, trolley cars e.t.c. Its also used in cranes and hoists and in conveyors. This motor is a d.c. motor. This means that an alternating supply voltage will be rectified into d.c. ... Having well designed and carefully chosen the component, the construction and design of this project has been successful. However its completion has cost the designer a lot of time and money. 3.7 RECOMMENDATION With the designing of a more cheap and reliable speed control, I recommend people to use the circuit. If given enough time and money the circuit can be improved with component of higher values to drive heavy loads. (to give higher output power with the same input).
