Major depression refers to a recurrent mental disease or disorder; whose major characteristic is recurrent episodes of reduced mood which lasts a span of at least 14 days. Commonly this is seen as an all-encompassing low mood and poor self esteem. Additionally, this is accompanied by lack of interest in activities which previously brought pleasure to the individual. The condition is serious and is commonly accompanied by adverse effects on the various aspects of an individual’s life including family, work or school. Additionally, the condition may also lead to physical effects including sleep disorders, changes in eating habits; and may eventually lead to suicide.
