The 8-4-4 system is one of the oldest system of education, its many advantages even though it has been debated in the past as being one of the most taxing ways of acquiring education. Hence it has many advantages and disadvantages now this essay is discussing some of these merits and dimerities and some of the possible ways to overcome them. This will help either to improve the system or adopt a new system.

Many of the problems which the intended curriculum was envisaged to address still persist even after it has been in place for over twenty years. It thus calls for rethinking of the curriculum and any innovation in the 8-4-4curriculum has to be in line with its originally intended objectives and the current needs of the country.
