This Chapter addresses the research questions in Chapter one. It will address the Tours and Travel Firms in Kenya, the response of effects of the post election violence by Tours and Travel firms and how they are adjusting themselves to cope with the situation.

One of the challenges facing the tours and travel business in Nairobi and in the country as a whole is recovering from the damage caused by post election violence that happened in December 2007 and early 2008.

The post election violence led to the closure of some of the tours and travel businesses . Others have been liquidated and court proceedings instituted due to non-payment of debts. Some Tours and Travel firms with more than one branch have closed down some of their offices. So many people in the tours and travel business were ...





... involved to cover the entire population. This study will affect the sample size which
will be limited to Nairobi. A sample size of 40 travel agents will be used which will not
be the real representative of the sample

3.8 Ethical issues

To ensure that the study complies with the ethical issues pertaining research undertaking, a permission to conduct the research will be sought form the management. A full disclosure of all the activities concerning the study will be explained to the management and this will involve the study intention which will only be for learning purposes. A high level of confidentiality and privacy will be observed and the findings of the study will only be submitted to the university and the company management. A letter of introduction will also be obtained from the university to serve as evidence of the purpose of the study.

3.9 Expected outcome

The study is expected to gather information on analysis of response to the effects of post election violence in the tours and travel firms in Kenya. The study is expected to give recommendations that will assist the government to implement policies that will improve the economic situations to the firms during this periods. It will also assist other stakeholders in the tourism industry to decide on what to lobby for on behalf of the tours and travel firms.
