Thika road ik kenya contruls lots of traffic from the nairobi City centre to upcountry.Because of this there was need to expand these road in order to accommodate the incresing traffic. This lead to the impact assessement that lead to this report.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT (EIA) REPORT FOR THE PROPOSED EXPANSION OF THIKA ROAD. The project is to be commissioned in June 2008 by the ministry of roads and public works, in conjunction with the ministry of finance, to assess the projected impacts of the proposed expansion of Nairobi-Thika highway. The high way shall use the road reserve previously set aside for this purpose but will have to acquire at least another 0.5 acres on either side of the road partly to be used by the project and partly set aside as reserve. The acquisition of the 0.5 has therefore prompted the EIA towards identifying both the positive and negative impacts as well as advice on the recommended mitigation measures, plans and procedures. The project shall be located between Thiririka and Ndarugu River about 40 km south of Nairobi. The project shall entail the expansion of the current two-lane Thika road to a massive four lane and will hence include the construction of new bridges, two more feeder roads to and ...

A convenient way of thinking about this checklist is to visualise the two parts as the vertical and horizontal axes of a virtual matrix. The lists are too long to be practically presented as a real matrix and even if they could be the individual cells in the matrix would be too small to contain any useful information about the nature or significance of the effects, but the concept is a useful one when thinking about scoping.
